Oki C830 Printer Review

Many organisations need the versatility of having a printer capable of printing on larger sized paper and the Oki C830 is capable of printing A3 and A4 print outs at a rate of 30 pages per minute for A4 and then 16 pages per minute for A3 paper sizes.  Oki have spent many years developing the software suite they bundle with their printers and this can truly be utilised with the type of work, this printer is likely to encounter.  It would be well placed in a creative office of medium to large size, with a monthly duty cycle of 75,000 pages.  For further details, see our full article here .

The Oki C830 printer is able to undertake a monthly duty cycle of 75,000 pages, meaning it would be a perfect fit for medium to large sized organisations.  The more creative environments will be able to take advantage of the A3 capability to print many business presentations, brochures and documents for the professional looking office.  The great news with this printer is the incredibly tiny footprint it takes up with the measurements coming in at 345 x 485 x 579mm.  Once again, for creative types, it really is possible to make this machine sing, when the full range of software functionality is accessed and utilised to its fullest degree.

Oki 830 toner cannot be considered flexible in any capacity, as it literally has one toner sizing to offer to their customers.  This is obviously because they judge this machine will be used on a very regular basis and therefore toner usage will be fairly consistent across the working month.  Oki C830 toner cartridges for black, cyan, magenta and yellow are all 8,000 page yields.  It is always wise to have a spare set of okidata C830 toner cartridges to hand, as it may be the office uses more black, when on a lengthy print run.  The standard paper capacity is 300 sheets but this can be boosted to 1460 sheets, with the purchase of three extra paper trays.

The software tools on this printer will also greatly benefit administrators and the printer can have a number of reports run, to show how the toner usage and printer is really being used.  It does have drivers for both a Max and PC but some of the colour software options do not work with a Mac.  A USB and Ethernet cable are all that are needed to get this printer up and running.

Auto Colour Balance software, will help users get the most from this printer.  The printer speeds in monochrome are 17 pages per minute in A3 mode and 32 pages per minute in A4 mode.  These speeds then drop down to 16 pages per minute in A3 mode and 30 pages per minute for A4 when printing in colour. The resolution is Pro Q2400dpi and this allows this printer to really give a superb and delightful output.

The memory can be added to, increasing it from 256MB to 768MB, if the printer is regularly asked to decipher complex jobs.  The processing speed is 700MHz.  This is one printer, creative types can enjoy playing with and can be assured in its reliability.

Oki C5100 Printer

The Oki C5100 printer is a mid range printer aimed predominantly at those offices who have workgroups that are fairly industrious.  The monthly duty cycle is 50,000 pages and they are designed to work in regularly in both colour and black and white.  The resolution is 600 x 1200 dpi and as with a lot of Oki printers, this machine is capable of printing banner length material, this is due to the straight-path facility.  The processor is 200 MHz and the memory can be increased from 32 MB to 288 MB if needed.  For further details, read our article here.

Oki C5100 Printer

Oki C5100 Printer

The Oki C5100 has been produced to fill the needs of small to medium sized offices and busy workgroups. This printer is creative enough to allow people to produce a good range of documents in-house and therefore keep some of the external printing costs at bay.  This is a LED printer, so it is inherently quiet and it comes with the added bonus of having a straight-paper path, which allows for some unique length of printer material to be produced.

Okidata C5100 toner is made in one capacity.  It should be noted the printer ships with much smaller capacity Oki C5100 ink when the printer is first bought.  The initial start up toners are only 1,200 page yields but it is then possible to buy a full set where all four Oki C5100 toner cartridge offer 5,000 page yields.  The size of these toners will help most offices cut down on the need for constant toner changing but it is inevitable the black toner will be utilised far more than the other three and therefore keeping a spare set of toner on hand, is always a good idea.  There are also further savings to be had by purchasing compatible toners for this printer.

The printer can be set up in an uncomplicated way by using the start up CD delivered with the machine.  This will automatically select the correct printer drivers for your hardware.  It is a network ready machine and will need an Ethernet cable to allow communication throughout the office.  A standard USB cable will connect this machine to the printer.

The print speeds are 20 pages per minute for black and white printing and fall down to 12 pages per minute for colour.  This means it isn’t the fastest printer out there but it does a good enough job for most users.  The standard paper capacity is 300 sheets and the resolution is 600 x 1200 dpi.  If you have the need to print longer length material, then this printer is for you.  It can print material up to 1.2 metres in length, allowing for some interesting documents to be produced in-house.

The C5100 is the base model out of three Oki produce and so it has limited software options but it does have a 200 MHz processor, along with 32 MB of memory, which can be increased to 288 MB with the help of extra DIMMs.

Pitney Bowes DM50 Franking Machine Ink

Pitney Bowes are probably one of the best known brands in the UK when discussing franking machines and they are one of a few that are legally allowed to produced franked mail. The Pitney Bowes DM50 is a small, entry level franking machine, which would suit a small office.  It has the ability to print marketing slogans and has an integrated weighing platform.  Overall this is a small and sleek machine which would happily slot into any office.  To find out more about this machine, read our full article here.

Pitney Bowes have for a long time been the industry standard for franking machines and they have a special relationship with the Royal Mail and are allowed to produce these machines for offices, so they can churn out franked mail.  They are one of only four companies allowed to do this in the UK and have been doing this since the early 1900’s.  The DM50 is a small, compact franking machine and it is robust enough to cope with regular mailing demands on a daily basis.

Pitney Bowes DM50 Franking Machine Ink

Pitney Bowes DM50 Franking Machine Ink

Pitney Bowes DM50 ink and franking labels are all you need once you have purchased this machine.  It is important to make sure you have a decent supply of pb dm 50 ink cartridges because the need to get post out as quickly as possible, is always important and office staff are bound to complain if the machine is down, due to a lack of ink.  These cartridges are relatively inexpensive to purchase and it is no hassle to store a few of these in the stockroom.

There are a number of ways you can get a franking machine into your business.  The obvious way, is to purchase it outright.  As this is a base model, it does not come automatically with a warranty, so it is probably worth spending the small amount of money on this extra, at the point of purchase, as it can be difficult and expensive trying to find an engineer to come and sort any issues out at a later date.  It is also possible to rent franking machines directly from Pitney Bowes or a recognised distributor and this is often a smart way for a small business to try it out before committing a heap of money to something they are not sure about. There is often a lengthy rental period agreement, around the five years mark, when doing it this way.

The DM50 can cope with up to 30 mail items a day, which does demonstrate how small this machine is. It is able to frank 20 letters a minute though, so it will be a relatively quick job for someone to take on in the office.  It is equipped with an integrated weighing platform, which can weigh up to 2.5 kg in weight.  Pitney Bowes have cleverly allowed for up to 5 marketing slogans to be incorporated onto the franked ticket and there is also an option to PIN password protect.

This is a cheap and reliable machine for new companies to consider and there is also an overall cut down on postage costs when using a franking machine.  This can be up to 30% on postage costs.  It is a small machine and will happily tuck into a small area in the office.

New Ways to Use Your Printer during 2013

Versatility is the key with most printers these days; most manufacturers want you to start using their machines for a wide variety of projects, so that you receive the best benefit from the printer and to try and make sure it really does answer all your needs.  This way, you will stay loyal to the product you have bought.  This is a good thing because it may also encourage you to try some fun projects with the printer, rather than just mundane office tasks.  With it being the start of the New Year, we thought you might like to see some of the ideas we have and the first item we have started with is a staple you will need right through the year:

Calendars:  Most people need a calendar on the wall in the office or at home to help make sure appointments and important dates are not forgotten.  It is very easy to go online and find templates which will allow you to customise the calendar with your own photographs.  HP Creative Studio has a range of calendars; some preformatted and others allowing you to add in your favourite photographic images.  These would make lovely gifts to other family members.  Ideally, select the best photographic paper you can afford to get the best look and finish or if you want to make it sturdier, why not select cardstock or coloured card.  Check your printer manual to see the highest paperweight your printer can handle.

Business Cards:  Often at the beginning of the year, people start thinking about re-branding and analysing where their company is going.  This is a good time to use your company for a number of marketing materials including business cards.  This can be very easily printed on many of the current printers today and they offer a cheaper solution than using an external print company.  Look for dedicated business card paper which is specifically created for the job in-hand and this will give a decent and professional looking finish.

Postcards:  These are another useful marketing tool and for short batches to a targeted audience, these are often easier to run off on a printer in the office.  Once again, it is easier to buy dedicated postcard paper but it is also easy enough to guillotine a sheet of paper with multiple images on it.

Wedding Invitations:  With the current combinations of decent papers and fantastic printer inks and printer toners, it is entirely feasible to print beautiful bespoke wedding invitations for your big day.

Christmas and Birthday Cards:  Although Christmas has just passed, it is possible you are smarting at the amount of money you spent in the shop to buy individual cards for your loved ones.  The solution is clearly to move this task onto a printer and create cards with images made specifically for the recipients.

Do have a look at our website as we offer wide selection of office supplies, card, papers, toner and ink for a huge range of printers.  If you cannot find what you are looking for, do give us a call and we are always happy to try and source them for you.  Happy printing!
