Epson Aculaser C1100 Toner and Printer Review
All things considered, the Epson Aculaser C1100 colour laser printer is an excellent piece of office
equipment. The C1100 is fast, delivers reliable quality, is reasonably priced, and can handle the duty cycle that most small offices need.
Of all the areas in which the C1100 excels, its speed is the most notable. The Epson Aculsaser printer
can produce colour text is at a respectable 5 PPM, while the C1100 can print black text at a humming 25
PPM. These numbers are desirable, but they mean nothing if the C1100 is not able to deliver the quality that users demand.
But deliver quality the C1100 does. Blacks text and images are especially well handled, looking clear
and solid. The C1100's colour capability means there were no problems printing black text over a yellow
background, Text printed on a gray background also provided excellent results, though there was a slight
ghosting around black lines and text. Graphs and charts look professional. But where the Epson C1100
really shone is in its colour graphics printing. Apart from being slightly muted overall, colours were
pleasing and compared well to source files. Once more, intricate details and good skin tones made prints
look natural. Normally, image printing isn't a primary strength in lasers, but the C1100 enables users
to use images in professional projects with confidence.
Though the Epson C1100 offers top of the line quality, it is somewhat limited in its paper capacity, which
could limit it to use by smaller offices. The C1100 some with a standard capacity of 180 sheets which
are loaded through a lower front door. There is an optional 500-sheet cassette that Epson offers that
clips onto the bottom of the printer. An automatic duplexer is also an option.
An LCD screen with several buttons on the front of the printer provides easy access to common printer
functions. The display gives quick access to printer status, including the total number of pages printed, toner levels and the remaining service life of the photoconductor unit. Even so, some settings
can only be accessed through the driver, which can be frustrating at times.
Mono printing is somewhat cheap cheap for a laser printer, but costs can still be high especially if much colour printing is done. A full set of Epson Aculaser C1100 toner cartridges costs £326, which makes the per-page operating cost at somewhere around 1.8p, which can get expensive.
Alternatives such as Supplies Group compatible toner offers relief from the high consumables costs. For instance a full set of Epson Aculaser compatible toner cartridges costs only £147 at Supplies Group, which drops costs to .008p per page.
The Epson Aculaser C1100 comes with a relatively puny 67MHz processor, which makes some printing jobs
delay quite a bit, and further segmenting the market of this printer to small offices. The C1100 can
also be somewhat noisy, clanking out pages at its high speed does have its side effects. However,
considering its price and other excellent features, this printer is definitely a winner. Most small
offices find the Epson Aculser C1100 Colour Laser printer to be an important addition to their office productivity.
