Epson Aculaser C1900 Printer Review
Epson's Aculaser C1900 colour laser printer provides a great value to midsize offices seeking a quality laser printer that can print take care of colour and monochrome printing. While Epson's C1900 doesn't break any new ground, and in some areas is significantly behind the competition, it still provides superior performance with exceptional quality.
Speed
This is one area where the Aculaser C1900 under performs slightly, though not so much as to be a nuisance. With color speeds of 4 PPM, it falls into the average segment, and is even beat out by other printers that sell for a lower price. The monochrome printing speed of 16 PPM is respectable but again, there are faster printers that cost less. Still, the Aculaser C1900 isn't slow enough to cause any problems in most situations.
Quality
Here is where Epson quality shows though. The C1900 is quite able to produce quality colour and monochrome prints consistently for the normal office user. Though the C1900 is not an inkjet, it is able to produce very good quality prints on glossy paper, which should satisfy most uses around the office.
Capacity
This C1900 is rated as a midrange color laser printer, and as such it provides a reasonable duty cycle and capacity, though again, it doesn't win any awards. The monthly duty cycle is 35,000, and is enough for most office settings. It standard tray capacity of 200 sheets is paltry, and should definitely be supplemented with the additional 500 sheet feeder.
Memory
The Epson Aculaser C1900 makes up for some unimpressive features by allowing the memory in the printer to be upgraded to a hefty 1GB, capable of handling almost any job the midsize office can throw at it. In addition, users can use any PC133 compliant memory to upgrade the printer to the 1 GB mark.
Operating Cost
Again, Epson doesn't cover any new ground with the pricing of the C1900's toner cartridges. A full set of all C1900 colors (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) costs a pricey £383.73. Fortunately, cost-conscious users can save money on toner by buying compatible toners, which can be found at a very low price here at The Supplies Guys.
